Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic Holds English Language Skills Development at UNESA

The Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic (Poltekpel) carried out English language skills development activities through the MBKM Field Trip program to the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) Campus on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The activity took place at 07.30–12.00 WIB at the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) UNESA, with 43 cadets and 5 officials and accompanying lecturers.

The activity was opened at 08.30 WIB, followed by official remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Language and Arts UNESA and the Director of the Surabaya Polytechnic at 08.45 WIB. This speech emphasized the importance of English proficiency as a key competency in the world of shipping and the global maritime industry.

Entering the main session, the cadets took part in English lectures and training guided by lecturers from the English Literature Study Program FBS UNESA. Two intensive materials are given, each lasting 60 minutes, namely:

1. Intercultural Communication (ICC) – discusses the cross-cultural communication competencies that are important for shipping officers.
2. Creative Writing – practice creative writing skills in academic and professional English contexts.  

The entire series of events was closed through a closing session at the end of the activity. Through this visit, the Surabaya Polytechnic hopes that cadets can gain direct learning experience with UNESA academics, expand academic horizons, and increase their readiness to communicate in an international environment
