The Teaching Experience in France: Learning Through Cultural Exchange

Refansyach Amir Syahir, a student of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) English Literature 2023, had the opportunity to gain valuable international teaching experience at *Institution Saint Oyend* in Saint-Claude, Jura, France. During his time at the school from February to May 2026, Refansyach actively assisted teachers in conducting English learning activities, interactive speaking sessions, and cultural exchange discussions with students. The learning environment encouraged active participation, allowing students to practice English communication in a supportive and engaging atmosphere. Through these activities, Refansyach contributed to creating a dynamic classroom where students felt confident expressing their ideas in English.

Beyond the classroom activities, Refansyach also experienced several cultural differences in the French school system. Unlike most schools in Indonesia, students at Institution Saint Oyend do not wear uniforms, which creates a more relaxed and informal atmosphere in the school environment. Additionally, the school schedule does not include classes every Wednesday, a practice that differs from the Indonesian education system. Through this experience, Refansyach learned valuable lessons about discipline and responsibility in professional settings. Both teachers and students at the school demonstrated a strong commitment to managing their time effectively and completing their responsibilities on schedule. This experience not only enhanced his teaching skills but also broadened his understanding of intercultural educational practices.
