Dr. Much. Khoiri Shares Insights at the Seabad Setahun Asrul Sani National Seminar
The "Seabad Setahun Asrul Sani" celebration brought together scholars, artists, students, and literature enthusiasts from across Indonesia to honor the remarkable legacy of Asrul Sani, one of the nation's most influential literary and cultural figures. Organized by Pelaku Sanggar Pelakon in collaboration with the Indonesian Literary Scholars Association (HISKI) and the National Library of Indonesia, the program featured a rich lineup of activities, including exhibitions, cultural discussions, a book launch, and a national seminar. More than a tribute to an iconic writer, the event became a vibrant forum for reflecting on how Asrul Sani's ideas and creative vision continue to shape Indonesia's literary and cultural landscape today.
A key highlight of the celebration was the launch of Seabad Setahun Asrul Sani: Intelektualitas, Jejak Karya, dan Sineas Indonesia, a two-volume publication that explores Asrul Sani's contributions to literature, film, and intellectual thought. The national seminar also welcomed speakers from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, including Dr. Much. Khoiri, M.Si., a lecturer from the English Literature Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA). In his presentation, Dr. Khoiri reflected on the significance of Asrul Sani's legacy and encouraged participants to view his works not only as literary achievements but also as sources of inspiration for contemporary cultural and intellectual life.
Dr. Khoiri emphasized that Asrul Sani's greatest contribution lies not only in the books, poems, and films he created, but also in the literary ecosystem he helped nurture. Through his commitment to creativity, dialogue, and intellectual exchange, Asrul Sani inspired generations of writers, scholars, and readers to keep literature alive as a space for critical thinking and cultural expression. His message resonated strongly with the audience, reminding everyone that preserving literature means more than remembering great authors—it also means sustaining the communities, conversations, and shared values that allow literary culture to flourish. The "Seabad Setahun Asrul Sani" celebration ultimately reaffirmed a shared commitment to carrying forward Asrul Sani's vision for future generations.
